Born on October 2, 1968, in Kyiv, Ukraine.

In 1990, Oleg Kokun graduated with honors from the Kyiv State Institute of Physical Culture. In 1994, he entered the PhD program at the G.S. Kostiuk Institute of Psychology of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences (NAPS) of Ukraine and received his PhD in 1997, specializing in 19.00.02 – Psychophysiology. His dissertation was titled “Monitoring and Correction of Psychophysiological Adaptation of Top-Level Athletes.”

In 2002, he began doctoral studies at the same institute and earned the degree of Doctor of Psychological Sciences in 2005, also in Psychophysiology. His doctoral thesis was titled “Optimization of Human Adaptive Capacity in Psychophysiological Support for Activities.”

From 1990 to 1994, he worked as a lecturer in the Department of Physical Education at the Kyiv State Arts Institute. Since October 1996, he has been affiliated with the G.S. Kostiuk Institute of Psychology, where he has held positions as researcher, senior researcher (since 1997), head of the Laboratory of Developmental Psychophysiology (since 2006), Deputy Director for Research and Innovation (2013-2025), and Director (since 2025).

His research interests include psychology in high-stress environments, health psychology and psychophysiology, work and organizational psychology, psychodiagnostics, and professional development.

Dr. Kokun served as a member of the Psychological Sciences Expert Council of the Highest Attestation Commission (VAK) of Ukraine (2006–2011), and as a member of the Doctoral Theses Expert Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2011–2013). Since 2007, he has served on the Specialized Academic Council for Doctoral Theses at the G.S. Kostiuk Institute of Psychology.

He is a member of the editorial boards of several academic journals, including Journal of Loss and Trauma, Psychologia Wychowawcza, Technologies of Intellect Development, Organizational Psychology. Economic Psychology, Psychological Journal, and Disaster and Crisis Psychology Problems.

Dr. Kokun has supervised 15 PhD students and 3 doctoral students. He is the author of more than 420 publications, including 14 monographs and over 30 course books and manuals.
