LABORATORY OF ECOLOGICAL PSYCHOLOGY
Laboratory established in 1995. Laboratory has been researching the psychological characteristics of environmental awareness and eco-oriented lifestyle of the individual, one of the most relevant and newdirection ofresearch in the Western and Ukranian psychology.
The head of the laboratory is Shvalb Yuri Mikhailovych, Doctor of Psychology, Professor.
Main activities
Scientific research
Laboratory conducts research in the field of ecological psychology and develops such scientific problems:
• psychological conditions and methods of forming and development of environmental awareness;
• psychological mechanisms of environmentally responsible behavior of the individual;
• psychology of man which is in extreme environmental conditions;
• psychological conditions and determinants of Ecological Culture;
• Psychological factors in the formation of ecology-oriented way of life;
• environmental and psychological monitoring of quality of life;
• environmental conditions of individual and group
• environmental and psychological support of natural and recreational areas;
• ecological and psychological problems of the city;
• psychological support ecologically-oriented business activities;
Currently, laboratory implements BAT "Socio-psychological characteristics of ecological-oriented lifestyle of the individual" (2011-2015 gg.).
Objective: to determine the psychological structure of ecological orientation as a way of life and on this basis to develop a model of social and psychological factors of its formation in modern society.
Research objectives:
1. Identify the key characteristics of ecologicaly oriented lifestyle of the individual.
2. Identify the psychological meaning of the categories of "environmentalism", "sustainable development", "preserving behavior" and the criteria for their evaluation system.
4. Identify the psychological structure of ecological orientation as value-semantic grounds of individual life.
5. Develop a model of social and psychological factors of ecologically oriented lifestyle of the individual.
6. Investigate environmental threats and fearsas factors of ecologically oriented lifestyle.
• Methods: theoretical (theoretical analysis, synthesis, classification, modeling); empirych¬ni (stating experiment opytu¬vannya testing); methods of mathematical statistics (correlation, factor, cluster and analysis of variance) . Among them are the study of psychological structure of ecological-oriented lifestyle used: subjective method of scaling, psychosemantic methods, content analysis of written products. To study the socio-psychological factors of ecologically oriented lifestyle of the individual used: Copyright biographical questionnaires, projective technique "family picture", test of anxiety R.Temml, M.Dorky, V.Amen, methods of "architect-builder", interview ' "Magic World".
According to the results of the topics planned training model of socio-psychological factors of ecologically oriented lifestyle osobystosti.V the execution threads planned to get the following results: 1) identify the key characteristics of ecology oriented lifestyle of the individual; determine the psychological structure of ecologycal orientation as value-semantic grounds of individual life; develop a system of indicators and benchmarks ecological orientation in lifestyle and individual effectiveness of psychological influences on the development of this orientation.
The content and main components of the model will be presented in the manuscript book "Social and psychological characteristics of ecological-oriented lifestyle of the individual" (12 pp). In addition, preparing scientific reports, articles in professional journals and scientific-methodical publications

The laboratory defended 12 PhDtheses and 5 doctoral theses by the represantatives of educational institutionsand oher organisationsfrom different cities of Ukraine

Researchers’ and academics’ training
Under the guidance of academician S.D. Maksymenko the Laboratory initiated the registration of a new PhD discipline - 19.00.10 - organizational psychology, economic psychology, as well as the opening of post-graduate and doctoral schools in this specialty at G.S. Kostiuk Institute of Psychology of the NAPS of Ukraine (2004).
The Laboratory has 43 PhD theses defended by the representatives of educational institutions and other organizations from different cities of Ukraine (Gorlivka, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Kamenets-Podilsk, Kerch, Lviv, Nizhin, Odessa, Rivne, Simferopol, Sumy, Chernihiv, Chernovtsy, Uman etc.). Of them 25 theses specialized in 19.00.10 - organizational psychology, economic psychology.

During 2003-2014 years the scientists oflaboratory successfully initiated and conducted a series of international conferences on ecological psychology:

Provided assistance to managers and practical educational psychologists and nongovernment organizations on issues of ecological and psychological support for organizations and individual entrepreneurs.
